Mike Matthews Just Complicated Tennessee’s WR Hierarchy

Mike Matthews delivered the biggest receiving performance of Tennessee’s season-opening win over Furman, catching four passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns—but his breakout also raised an important question about the Vols’ wide receiver hierarchy. Former Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton explains how Matthews’ extended offseason work with freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon could lead to a massive season. Crompton and Charlie Burris also discuss Braylon Staley’s surprisingly quiet opener, why Tennessee needs both receivers producing and how Georgia Tech could adjust its coverage after Matthews’ explosive debut. Could Matthews emerge as Tennessee’s true No. 1 receiver, or will additional defensive attention create the perfect opportunity for Staley to break out next week? #TennesseeFootball #MikeMatthews #Vols Play A to Z Sports Daily Games: https://atozsports.com/games For more VOLS coverage: https://atozsports.com/nashville/volunteers/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/volforlifetn Twitter: https://x.com/BigOrangePod Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/atozsportsvols TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@atozsportsvols #tennesseevols #tennesseevolunteers #secfootball
