DESCRIPTION
Tennessee allowed 10 sacks and produced only 221 total yards in its 20-17 loss to No. 1 Texas—but how much of that failure belonged to the offensive line?
Former Vols quarterback Jonathan Crompton explains why the protection breakdown was a shared problem. Tennessee’s offensive line struggled against Collin Simmons and the Texas pass rush, but true freshman Faizon Brandon also held the football too long, abandoned clean pockets and failed to take several available underneath throws.
Brandon finished 17 of 29 for 145 yards and a touchdown without committing a turnover. Crompton explains why the difficult performance does not change his long-term opinion of Tennessee’s quarterback—and why facing an elite defense in his fourth college start could become a valuable learning experience.
